Meet The Peacock Acres Board Members
George Lopez - President
George Lopez was originally born in Mexico; however, he has lived in Salinas since the age of 5. At age 10 he entered the foster care system and eventually ended up at Peacock Acres. He aged out of the foster care system soon after graduating high school and attended San Jose State University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Marketing. Eventually he decided he wanted to be a teacher and earned his multiple subject teaching credential. George currently is an educator in a local school district.
Cheryl Mouras Fernandez - Vice President
Cheryl Mouras Fernandez retired from law enforcement after 30 years of service. While still in law enforcement, she pursued her passion, earning a master's degree in counseling, becoming a Marriage and Family Therapist. For 23 years, she has helped individuals and families heal and grow. In 2010, Cheryl joined Peacock Acres, serving in various roles and later joining the Board of Directors in 2023. She is passionate about helping to make a positive impact with foster children and youth. Additionally, Cheryl worked with our military and responded to traumatic critical incidents in workplace settings.
Doug Wenger - Treasurer
Doug Wenger graduated from UC Berkeley with a BS degree in Industrial Engineering. He worked as a computer systems analyst at the Navy's Fleet Numerical Meteorology and Oceanography Center in Monterey for over 40 years. Participated in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program for four years in the early 1990's and is currently retired. Doug has been a member of Peacock Acres Board for four years. He joined the Board because of an interest in trying to contribute in some manner to the welfare of foster youth in the community.
Theresa Carbajal - Secretary
Theresa Carbajal has been retired after 43 years in Education. During my tenure in education , I had the following positions: high school special ed teacher, school, psychologist, college, professor and college counselor. My passion has always been people with special needs and helping them reach their potential and goals in life they have taught me to be a better human being.
Jeanne Hori - Director
Jeanne Hori has been a Peacock Acres board member since October 2016. Before becoming a Peacock Acres Board member, she worked as a full-time Early Childhood Education instructor at Hartnell College. Jeanne has been passionate about providing students with access to quality training and education and developed a Bilingual Spanish/English Curriculum in Early Childhood Education. As a board member she has supported Peacock Acres’ mission in providing quality services for foster children separated from their families. She admires the commitment and dedication of the Peacock Acres staff providing services such as housing, counseling, therapy, education, and life coaching for foster youth.
Peacock Acres is seeking to add to its Board of Directors
Peacock Acres is seeking board candidates who possess and share our vision to help with all Foster Youth. Looking for the ideal candidate with any of these areas of expertise, but not limited to: fund-raising/development, marketing, finance, housing, legal, and strategic planning.
Each board member is expected to:
- Understand and ensure Peacock Acres mission, visions, and programs.
- Attend meetings and actively participate in proceedings.
- Serve as an advocate for the organization.
- Contribute to Peacock Acres financially within your ability.
