On -Going Volunteer Opportunities

  • Is your specialty in EDUCATION?

    Educational Support volunteers will work with our transitional age youth (16-24 years old) in a variety of ways. Options can include: CAHSEE preparation, college applications and personal statement support, and subject tutoring (math and English). As in all of our programs with Peacock Acres, mentoring is always a component of any volunteering opportunity. Volunteers will coordinate with a case manager to identify who they will be working with based on their skill set and schedule. Generally, the sessions will be after 4pm on weekdays and flexible on weekends. Volunteers will be responsible for their own transportation to the youth’s home or a library.
  • Share your love for HEALTH/FITNESS?

    Health and fitness volunteers will support our transitional age youth (16-24 years) in a variety of ways. Options can include: “personal training” at the YMCA (memberships included for youth and volunteer), pick up team sports, outdoor recreation activities, healthy eating cooking workshops (materials provided), and pretty much anything you want to bring to our programs! Volunteers will coordinate with a case manager to identify who they will be working with based on their skill set and schedule. The sessions will be after 4 pm on weekdays and flexible on weekends. Volunteers will be responsible for their own transportation to the youth’s home or any recreational site.
  • Mentor or teach PARENTING SKILLS!

    Teaching self-care and parenting skills’ is a unique opportunity for volunteers that would like to support our parenting teens. Options can include: Parenting/Mommy tips, “Mommy and Me” Yoga, clothing exchanges, spa days, and sharing of low-cost, kid-friendly places to visit! Volunteers will coordinate with a case manager to identify who they will be working with based on their skill set and schedule. Schedules vary depending on the availability of the the volunteer and youth. Volunteers will be responsible for their own transportation to the youth’s home or meet up.
  • Tutor/Mentor in the Learning Center!

    Program Volunteers are responsible for assisting with tutoring and homework help during the Home Charter or After School Program. Volunteers will provide assistance based on subject or activity. Volunteers will also help with snack prep, clean up, and helping maintain a safe productive environment for students. Volunteers will assist students in completing all or a majority of their daily homework. After homework is completed, extra study time can be used to do worksheets and other activities.

    Specific Duties may include:

    • Work one-on-one and in small groups to provide homework help and tutoring to children in 1st-12th Grade

    • Provide frequent updates on academic and behavioral progress to the Program Coordinator.

    • Assists students in developing a better understanding of in-class, and homework assignments

    • Have the ability to build positive relationships and promote self-confidence in children

    • Have the ability to take initiative and show leadership

    • The most important thing is to BE ENGAGING!
